General Safety Tips
Trust Your Instincts
If something feels wrong or uncomfortable, cancel the exchange. Your safety comes first.
Keep Communication on Platform
Use Giver.ug's messaging system for all communications. This creates a record and helps us protect you.
Verify User Profiles
Check user ratings, reviews, and account age before arranging an exchange.
Never Send Money
Giver.ug is strictly for free donations. If someone asks for payment, report them immediately.
Meeting Safely
Choose Public Meeting Places
- •Coffee shops and cafés during business hours
- •Shopping mall common areas
- •Public libraries
- •Police station parking lots (safest option)
- •Well-lit, busy areas during daylight hours
Bring a Friend or Family Member
Never meet alone, especially for the first time. Having someone with you significantly increases safety.
Tell Someone Your Plans
Share your meeting location, time, and who you're meeting with a trusted friend or family member.
Stay in Public Areas
Never invite strangers to your home or go to their home. Always meet in public, well-populated areas.
Tips for Givers
Screen Recipients
Review recipient profiles and ask questions about why they need the item.
Set Clear Boundaries
Establish pickup times and locations that work for you. Don't feel pressured to accommodate unreasonable requests.
Don't Share Personal Information
Keep your home address, phone number, and other personal details private until you've established trust.
Tips for Recipients
Be Respectful and Courteous
Remember that givers are doing you a favor. Be polite, punctual, and grateful.
Inspect Items Before Taking
Check the condition of items in person. If they don't match the description, it's okay to decline.
Communicate Clearly
If you're running late or need to reschedule, notify the giver as soon as possible.
